Death of the Outsider

I was Lead Narrative Designer and co-Creative Director for this spinoff to the Dishonored games, that came out in 2017. I was delighted to take on more responsibilities for this opus, for which we were nominated for a WGA award.

For this project I was lucky enough to share the creative direction. A great opportunity for me to reinvent some of the established narrative mechanics used in the preious Dishonored games. For example I was particularly proud of the “Rat Whispers” system that was created for our new protagonist, Billie Lurk. She had the ability to magically hear what the rats were saying, sometimes discovering clues useful for her mission. This was so interesting as a storytelling means to hint at the bigger world while indirectly building her character.

I co-wrote the main story with Harvey Smith, and then I had the chance to work with two incredibly awesome writers, Anna Megill and Hazel Monforton. We were nominated by the American Writers Guild for the resulting script, which I’m super proud of.

As usual, I had a hand in a million things during this project: creating interesting side-missions, planning the entirety of the dialogues, notes, letters, newspapers, scripting the AI barks… A million reasons to interact with artists, system designers, AI programmers, level designers… Which is what I love in this job!
